Montana 1948 Socratic Seminar 1
We just had our first Socratic Seminar on the book Montana 1948 by Harry Watson. We talked about how far is to far when it comes to protecting your family. In Montana 1948 Wes’ brothers frank rapes some girls, as he hears. I know that if my brothers did this I don’t think id say something but also looking at what he did is a crime. So it can go either way. Some people feel that you do the crime you pay the time. If I was put in this situation I think I’d try to find out more about and make sure its true then talk to my brother. I wouldn’t be able to rat my family out
Sibling Rivalry
Sibling rivalry is show in every age. In the book Montana 1948, by Harry Watson; Sibling rivalry is the main theme in the book. It shows even older people can argue over little ridicules things, like arguments over each other. The main disagreement was between David’s, father Wes and David’s Uncle Frank. Uncle Frank gets credit for everything while Wes just stays back in notices that it’s all about Frank. Wes and Uncle Frank’s father (David’s grandfather) used to talk so highly about his son, Wes and Frank both knew who the son was. It was never about Wes, also the hero or doctor Frank. This was a good example that sibling rivalry can happen any age, because they are both around their 40’s.
Tactics to help sibling rivalry are to go your own way; Denise Henry says that if you start doing something your sibling isn’t interested in then it won’t be ruined by any agreements. (Henry page 14) if you start to do something like a different sport or play an instrument your sibling doesn’t do then you can enjoy it and become very good at it. Wes and Uncle Frank still seem to argue over little things while Wes ignores him and does his own thing.
Sibling rivalry can happen at any age. In the book Montana 1948, shows a good example about sibling rivalries. Uncle Frank and Wes are adults and they still seem have arguments about pointless things, just like kids do. Age really doesn’t seem to matter. There are ways to avoid and ignore sibling rivalry. You can start something different like a sport or and instrument that your sibling doesn’t like or doesn’t know how to play. Denise Henry says that “things between you and your sibling will likely stay the same, and may even worse, before they get better”. Staying away from sibling rivalry is a good thing because its childish and really shouldn’t be visible in your older years.
